The State houses a diversity of eco-systems including
plateaus, ravines, ridges, valleys, riparian areas and flat plains.
With four major forest types, nine National Parks and 25 Wildlife
Sanctuaries, the Tiger State houses one of the riches faunal and
floral diversity. With around 5000 plant species, these forests
are habitat to as many as 500 diversity of minor millets, indigenous
cattle and poultry landraces like Kadaknath boasts of the agro biodiversity.
For in-situ and ex-situ conservation of this rich biodiversity of
the State the following outputs have been envisaged:
- Heritage sites/Community Conservation Reserves/Conservation
Reserves in two eco-regions
- PBR plan implementation in villages in clusters in eco-regions
- Application of Gene Fund in identified agro-BD hot spots
- Established network of seed keepers/gene banks
- Collection and storage of crop & animal genetic resources
strengthened
- Identify water stretches over Narmada/ Ken/ Wainganga as
Heritage Sites for aquatic fauna
- Implementation of Project focusing Pardhi Community for biodiversity
Conservation
- Sectoral initiatives for BD conservation implemented in selected
cluster of villages in eco-region
